Bethlehem Burners has announced the winners of their first online, social media photo contest – the Show Us Your Glass competition.

“Turnout for the photo contest was beyond what we ever expected,” said Katherine Hayes, vice president of Bethlehem Burners, “and the talent we saw was truly amazing.” The photo contest was hosted on Bethlehem Burners’ official Facebook page, and encouraged fans to submit photos of their best pieces of glass artwork and vote for favorite entries for the chance to win a new Bravo or Alpha torch. The 16-week contest ran from September 14 through January 14, ending with nearly 200 entries via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

After reviewing entries extensively, two top participants were chosen by Bethlehem Burners to receive one of the brand’s torches, while the participant with the most fan votes received a $100 cash prize. Criteria for judging winning submissions was technique, use of color, and overall skill level.

The grand prize was awarded to Paul Labrie, who submitted his “Flower and Hummingbird Lidded Vessel”, a large piece containing intricate detail and a wide use of color. Labrie will receive a Bethlehem Burners Bravo torch for his grand prize placement.

Bethlehem Burners, a division of Bethlehem Apparatus Company, Inc., and manufacturers of surface-mixed glassworking torches since 1950, has introduced the new Bethlehem Alpha Glass Bead Burner. The Alpha torch, Bethlehem’s starter burner, was designed to produce a wide range of flames in order to provide artists, particularly bead makers, with a safe, versatile glass working experience.

Bethlehem Burners’ Alpha torch is a surface mixed burner, providing a soft single flame without loud noise or the hazard of flashbacks. Due to its surface mixed design, the Alpha torch produces a quiet, yet penetrating high heat flame capable of working both soft and borosilicate glass. Unlike pre-mixed torches that require users to change burner tips, the surface-mixed Alpha burner allows the operating artist to safely alter the torch’s flame size by adjusting the oxygen and gas valves. With the torch’s simple valve structure, users can adjust from a larger, bushy flame to a pinpoint flame smoothly and precisely.

The low-pressure, versatile burner is constructed entirely of stainless steel, providing a torch body that stays cool regardless of flame size or usage time. The torch is 5” long and weighs 2.5 lbs., making the burner a smaller, more convenient torch for artists working in a home setting.

Engineers at Bethlehem Burners recently developed a new internal torch construction, designed to provide users the option of working with a low-pressure fuel source. This new design results in lower oxygen and fuel demand. The Alpha delivers a higher volume of fuel at a lower gas pressure, running at 7 cubic feet per hour at only 2 psi, and subsequently producing a flame ideal for glass working. Glass workers can operate their Alpha torch on household gas and an oxygen concentrator.

Additionally, the Alpha comes standard with Bethlehem’s new sturdy, flat torch base with locking knobs. The steel base was designed with a flat surface to enable easy, safe mounting and clamping, ideal for travelling artists who lack a permanent workstation.

For more information please contact Rachel Lawrence at (610) 838-7034 or via email: rlawrence@bethapp.com

The Alpha is available for purchase online through the Bethlehem Burners website or from a local distributor.

The newly designed bases are now standard on all current Bethlehem Burners models.

Bethlehem Burners, a division of Bethlehem Apparatus Company, Inc., and manufacturer of surface-mixed glassworking torches since 1950, has announced the introduction of a new torch base design. Now standard on all current Bethlehem Burners torch models, the redesigned base provides users with upgraded, safer mounting capabilities than previous base models.

“We asked lamp workers what they wanted in a base and learned that a flat steel base with gripped feet on the bottom was ideal,” said Kate Hayes, Vice President at Bethlehem Burners. “This new base design makes it easier to clamp the torches down to work surfaces, ideal for a lot of our artists who travel and can’t permanently secure their torches to one workstation.” The base is flat and square, providing a level surface to simplify and secure clamping.

Bethlehem Burners redesigned the base after discovering user difficulty and slippage in clamping the previous dome-like base structure to workstations. With the base’s new even-planed, square design, users can securely clamp or mount their torch to their workstation efficiently and accurately. In addition to a balanced mount, new rubber feet provide users with a sturdy, non-slip surface, giving the artist a safer and easier work experience.

“The new bases are sturdier, simpler to mount and because of the new rubber feet, don’t slip around on tabletops.” said Hayes. “It’s perfect for demonstrating artists who set up in different locations.”

The new bases are now standard on Bethlehem Burners models, the Alpha and Bravo, as well as the upcoming Champion torch, set for release in early 2013. New bases are also available separately for current Bethlehem Burners torch owners seeking an upgrade, and can be found on the company’s website.

New bases are available on Alpha and Bravo torches, or separate for purchase online. For more information please contact Rachel Lawrence at (610) 838-7034 or via email: rlawrence@bethapp.com .

Bethlehem Burners, a division of Bethlehem Apparatus Company, Inc., and manufacturers of surface-mixed glassworking torches since 1950, has introduced the new Bethlehem Bravo Lampworking Torch. The Bravo torch was designed specifically with the needs of the artistic flameworker in mind. It affords unmatched control over the flame while meeting the market’s demand for a low-pressure torch that helps reduce fuel consumption costs.

The goal in designing the Bravo was to create a low-pressure torch that is less demanding on oxygen and fuel. The Bravo's internal design provides glass artists with a torch that runs off of a low-pressure fuel source. Artists can use oxygen concentrators at 7psi and ¼ psi of natural gas or use tanked oxygen and propane. Whatever the fuel source, the Bravo will provide the artist with a better, stronger flame at lower pressures. Continue reading →

Bravo low-pressure lampworking torch

Bethlehem Burners, a division of Bethlehem Apparatus Company, Inc., and manufacturers of surface-mixed glassworking torches since 1950, has introduced the new Bethlehem Bravo Lampworking Torch. The Bravo torch was designed specifically with the needs of the artistic flameworker in mind. It affords unmatched control over the flame while meeting the market’s demand for a low-pressure torch that helps reduce fuel consumption costs.

The Bravo is Bethlehem’s redesign of the popular Barracuda burner. Like the Barracuda, the Bravo is a dual-flame torch. The Bravo comes standard with four independent valves that help control both the center and outer fires, giving the artist extensive flame control without having to incur extra costs for a quad-manifold. “Having four independent valves helps the lampworker easily adjust a wide range of flame settings,” said Rachel Lawrence, Vice President at Bethlehem Burners. “Artists and glass workers alike using the Bravo have, in one torch, access to a large, soft bushy flame from the outer fire—perfect for melting borosilicate glass—down to a small needlepoint flame from the center fire- perfect for detailed work and everything in between.”

The goal in designing the Bravo was to create a low-pressure torch that is less demanding on oxygen and fuel. After extensive research and development, Bethlehem’s engineers constructed a new internal design that provides glass artists with a torch that runs off of a low-pressure fuel source. Artists can use oxygen concentrators at 7 psi and ¼ psi of natural gas or use tanked oxygen and propane. Whatever the fuel source, the Bravo will provide the artist with a better, stronger flame at lower pressures.

In addition, the Bravo’s unique stainless steel body is a plus for the lampworking artist. Because stainless steel does not conduct heat very well, it allows the torch’s body to stay cool to the touch after hours of use. Like all Bethlehem Burners, the Bravo produces a penetrating flame that bathes glass as if it’s in an oven.

For more information please contact Rachel Lawrence at (610) 838-7034 or via email: rlawrence@bethapp.com

The Bravo is available for purchase online through the Bethlehem Burners website (www.bethlehemburners.com) or from a local distributor. A list of Bethlehem Burners distributors is available on the web site.
